Ownership deception

Haven´t we all been in the predicament ¨ I have nothing to wear¨, ¨ I need new clothes¨, “ l just don´t have the right thing¨ while being well aware deep down that we actually have more than enough.  Yet we fool ourselves to believe that we need to own something different to be complete and feel comfortable with the situation.  It could even be understood as a coping mechanism to fit into what we believe is the expected action.  This answer comes flowing to our mind in the most natural manner possible ¨ I´ll just buy something new¨.

While we keep hoarding all of these items we forget an important part of the process. We need to let go of the old to move into a more fresh start. Let’s think for a moment when we buy about a few things. Why are we buying it? Is it going to make me feel genuinely good? Is ti for myself or for somebody else?

These questions can give us freedom of our perception for needing this item. Think for a moment, will I be able to buy this item and make use of it to equate the amount of money I´m investing on it? We all have thing that we haven´t used in months or even years. These items are just occupying space in our very limited real state and in many cases contribute to the clutter that’s part of our lives. We can de-clutter by letting go of these items in the best way possible. We can donate them if they are still useful. I like to look at it the following way. They may still be worth, they might still be good and maybe even look brand new but, is it useful for me? Is it worth for it to take space in my life at this moment?

This product or item that I no longer use has given me a memory. It has served me well and because of this, I believe it´s about time I replace it or let him go.  Not only is it going to help me keep control of my clutter but, it might serve somebody else that needs it. It helps me control my spending too by being conscious of  my ¨inventory¨  This way I only own items that I value and are important to me.

Maybe we can take this inherent pressure to own more and make it merge into the oblivion in our mind.  Maybe if we decide to focus our happiness and expectations in a different place we can transform aspects of our lives that we may not notice also need to change and cause an impact in us ways we don´t expect.

For me, this can bring a sense of accomplishment and completion like no other. It can be hard to part from things we’ve own from years but, this isn’t about mindlessly throwing away our things. This is about keeping what bring joy and happiness to our lives and letting go whatever does not. Letting go of what over-complicates our lives in order to de-clutter our most intimate spaces. Mind you this concept doesn’t only apply to physical things but to abstract concepts, feelings and even some people in our lives however, that is another topic of it´s own.
